Kecia Chin
Alexander Technique Teacher

From a young age, movement was my language. I trained as a cross-country runner, a classically trained dancer, and a devoted martial arts enthusiast. These high-endurance, physically demanding disciplines gave me a deep respect for the body's power and potential. I thought I knew my body intimately, as any athlete does, treating it as a finely tuned instrument.

But it wasn’t until I stepped into the world of the performing arts that I began to understand the real depth of that instrument.

At university, my classical dance training was layered with acting, singing, movement, mime, stage combat, and weaponry. The physical demands were immense. Despite my background, I found myself discovering a more intelligent way to work—one that would support my performance, not drain it. That’s when I discovered the Alexander Technique.

It was nothing short of a revelation.

This gentle yet powerful method completely transformed my understanding of movement and presence. It offered me something I didn’t know I was missing: ease. With the Alexander Technique, I began to unravel patterns of tension and over-effort that I had carried for years. I found freedom in stillness, coordination in simplicity, and awareness in action.

Since becoming a certified Alexander Technique teacher in 1999, I have been immersed in this work, combining it with decades of self-study in sports, dance, and the performing arts. My curiosity naturally led me to yoga, which I began teaching in 2014—integrating its breath, flow, and mindful movement with the foundational principles of the Alexander Technique.

A key area of my continued exploration is the study of scoliosis and spinal organization, both in my personal practice and in my work with students. I’ve found that combining the nuanced understanding of postural habits from the Alexander Technique with the intelligent movement of yoga creates profound opportunities for healing, realignment, and self-discovery.

Today, my teaching results from over 25 years of accumulated knowledge, lived experience, and a commitment to embodied wisdom. Whether I’m working with a performer, athlete, yogi, or someone simply seeking relief from chronic tension or pain, my intention is the same: to guide people toward a more spacious, conscious, and integrated way of living in their bodies.

This work is not just a profession—it’s a path. One of presence, inquiry, and freedom. And I’m honored to walk it with all others interested.
